Nebraska Route and Cushing Extension

News, TransCanada Pipeline, President Obama

The President is traveling to Cushing on Thursday to show support for domestic oil production and support for a TransCanada pipeline that would go from OK to the TX port (and then off to the highest bidder from a refinery owned by Saudi Arabia).

We wanted to give folks a quick update on the Nebraska route and where we stand on the President's visit.

Obama's Energy Edge, GOP Chasing Unicorns

Malinda Frevert

News, TransCanada Pipeline, Obama, Congress, Poll

Nebraskans know the Congressional Republicans are trying to use the KXL pipeline against President Obama. Nebraskans know better and know the President did the right thing by denying the Keystone XL pipeline.

Using false arguments about jobs and energy security, Congressional Republicans think they can take Obama down a notch or cost him the whole election. However, a new poll shows the GOP's failed strategy.

Sign the "Thank You for Stopping the Pipeline" card to President Obama

Malinda Frevert

News, TransCanada Pipeline, Obama

Last Wednesday, President Obama made the monumental announcement that he is denying TransCanada's permit request to build the Keystone XL export pipeline. We first want to say thank you to all the farmers, ranchers, urbanites, treehuggers, grandmas, students, artists, business owners and everyone in between who made this happen. All of your work writing letters, sending emails, calling, getting arrested, surrounding the Governor's Mansion, and testifying at State Department hearings led to this right decision for our country, land and water.

To sign the card, please fill out the form below.

The Dirty Money Influence Behind Keystone XL

Editor's note: this piece originally appeared in the National Wildlife Federation's blog and was written by Peter LaFontaine, the NWF Energy Polic Advocate.

The Keystone XL pipeline has achieved the improbable: making Congress look even more dysfunctional than usual. Big Oil’s friends on Capitol Hill, eager to start the flow of dirty tar sands oil to the Gulf coast, have already forced President Obama to make a “yes or no” decision on KXL by late February. But now, having realized that Obama will probably say no to this disaster-in-waiting, they’re trying to rig the system and make the call themselves. From Reuters:

'Tis the Season to thank President Obama

Malinda Frevert

News, TransCanada Pipeline, Obama

Update 12/28: We have reached our goal of 91 Nebraskans telling us they've sent holiday cards to Obama! Of course, we encourage everyone to keep writing the president asking him to deny the Keystone XL permit. Thanks for all your hard work and continued pressure on our elected officials. Have a happy and bold New Year!

We know the decision to conduct more studies on TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline was not an easy one for President Obama. We also know while it was a tough decision, it was the right decision.

Regulations and Taxes Don't Hurt

News, Labor, Business, Obama Jobs Plan, Taxes, Regulations

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 8, 2011 — Dan Danner, the president and CEO of the National Federation of Independent Business, issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress this evening.

“Small-business owners needed to hear something bold from President Obama tonight, but instead just heard more of the same. His plan does not address the fundamental problems facing small business today. In addition, recent history tells us that a huge federal stimulus program is the wrong approach, and again sends the message that the president thinks he can spend his way out of this recession.

“The truth is that small businesses need the government out of their way. Tax breaks are always a welcome help to small businesses, especially in these tough economic times. But those outlined tonight by the president are temporary, and avoid the question of meaningful business tax reform. Lack of sales is still a major concern and there is a great deal of uncertainty among small businesses thanks to the threat of higher taxes and the thousands of pending federal regulations. The president’s speech did little to ease those concerns.”
